Water Treatment Plant

NAMWATER is a commercial entity that supplies water to industries, municipalities, and the Directorate of Rural Water Supply of the Ministry of Agriculture. To achieve its vision of improving the availability and reliability of the infrastructure, NamWater initiated a project to critically evaluate its Asset Management (AM) practices and develop a formal AM policy, strategy, and master maintenance plan. NamWater also required a review of its maintenance activities, standards, and procedures, including its computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), as well as the development and implementation of detailed annual maintenance programs and budgets.

The client is a glass bottle manufacturer, a highly energy-consuming process where the electricity supply to the plant is critical for operations. The plant uses a complex system of transformers and generators to supply electricity, two critical assets that caused significant production losses and reactive maintenance costs.

Phola is a coal processing plant jointly owned by Anglo Coal and BHP Billiton and operated by Minopex on their behalf. Pragma was contracted by Minopex to conduct an AMIP and then implement an Asset Care Centre. Pragma took only four months to make a significant difference in the plant. This case study shows how Pragma and Minopex formed a strategic partnership to improve the performance of a major processing plant.
